Today we will share with you 3 easy ways to have deep and meaningful conversations with people in English. You will feel happier if you can connect with other people in a real way. You may feel lonely if you do not ask other people the right questions and if you are a bad listener.

In our video lesson on www.happyenglishclass.com we teach about small talk and chit-chat. Small talk is polite conversation about unimportant things. It is when you talk to a stranger at a party, or at a bus stop. You talk about weather or sports. You can learn about small talk when you subscribe to www.happyenglishclass.com. Small talk is an important skill to learn when talking to strangers.

What about if you want to have a deeper talk with a real friend in English?

#1 If you want to get to know someone well, you must have deeper conversations

To have a deeper connection, you must share something personal. To have a long and meaningful friendship or relationship, you will talk about your personal thoughts and feelings. This is a deeper conversation than chit-chat or small talk. You will usually have deeper conversations with people you have met more than one time.

#2 You must ask the right questions

To get to know someone well, you must ask deeper questions. If you ask someone a personal question, then you are taking the conversation to a deeper level, and it is no longer chit-chat or small talk. If you want to get to know someone well, make sure it is the right time. The bus stop may not be the right time to ask someone a very personal question if they are a stranger. It may not be appropriate to ask someone a personal question if it is the wrong time.

Here are some questions you can ask to get to know someone on a deeper level:

“What makes you happy?”

“If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?”

“What are you most thankful for?”

“What’s the craziest thing you have done?”

“If you could have any job, what would it be?”

These are a few examples of questions you can ask to have a deeper conversation with someone.

#3 Be a good listener

It is very important to be a good listener!

You may feel confused when you are talking with someone in English, or thinking about what you want to say. It’s important to listen to what the other person is saying and let them know you understand, or do not understand. To have a deep and meaningful friendship, you must learn how to be a good listener.
